What does a cow really cost?

Otlak keeps herd records, health and feed in one panel, so a cattle farm can see the real cost of every animal.

Ask a beef cattle farm what one animal costs and the answer is often a guess. Feed is bought in bulk, vaccines are given to whole groups, and fixed costs and inflation are rarely split across the herd. Otlak was built to answer that question with records instead of estimates.

The day on one screen

The panel opens on active animals, pens, today's births and critical alerts, with quick actions for a new birth, weighing, health case or sale. Alerts come in ten categories and three levels, and each one can be snoozed, completed or ignored.

Every animal, every pen

Each animal has its ear tag, group, pen, latest weight and status, with pedigree, weight history, health and cost in its detail view. The pens map colours every pen by how full it is and recommends a transfer when one gets overcrowded.

Health and breeding without paper

Births are recorded with the calf's tag, weight and result, and the next ear tag is suggested. Breeding includes an inbreeding check, vaccination campaigns run in bulk and skip animals that are not eligible, and medicine stock is used by expiry date first.

The real cost, finally

Rations are built from feeds with 14 nutrient values, and feed is tracked from purchase to distribution. Every animal then gets a real cost from feed, fixed costs and inflation, and reports compare pens, finance and staff as CSV or PDF. Field staff can record births, weighings and health cases on a tablet, even offline.
